Before purchasing any puppy/dog, it is advised that you research your chosen breed thoroughly so you are aware of all aspects from how much time you need to dedicate to the breed through to the health risks you could possibly be faced with.
As a reputable breeder we will only breed from fully health tested clear dogs e.g. dogs heart tested clear by veterinary cariologist, dogs with a UPC ratio (for kidneys) of below 3.0, dogs tested clear in both ears for deafness and dogs clear of patella luxation. All dogs will also be of sound temperament. Our aim is to better the breed and so would also not breed from anything with known skin or neurological problems.
All breeds of dogs have health problems and those that can be associated with the Bull Terrier are:
- Kidney Disease
- Heart Disease
- Deafness
- Skin Problems
- Patella Luxation
- Lethal Acrodermatitis (LAD)
- Neurological Disorders
There are more and more breeders out there who are health testing their breeding stock to help reduce the risk of producing unhealthy puppies. Certificates are given to breeders after hearing/heart/kidney tests have been carried out show the results of the tests so it is advised that before purchasing a puppy you ask to see the breeders health certificates. The majority of breeders will be pleased to hear you ask this as it shows you have researched the breed.
